Drawing a Treasure Chest
Step 1:
In this first step of our guide to drawing a treasure chest, we will start with the outline of the chest. For this step, you can use a ruler if you have one handy, as we’ll be trying to get straight edges for the chest and the lid. For the opening of the chest and the lid, we will draw two connected rectangles. The reference image will guide you to the angle these rectangles should have.
The rectangle at the bottom will also have tiny spaces where the treasure will spread out. Finally, add a rounded line to the right side of the lid, then draw a few straight lines from the bottom corners. Finally, we’ll draw a rolled-up map from inside the chest.
Step 2:
A treasure chest is only as impressive as the treasure it contains, and it looks like whoever filled that chest had some real loot! In this part of your treasure chest drawing, we will draw a fancy crown on a small pillow with some coins. This crown will go on the lower left side of the chest, and we’ll use a combination of curved and straight lines to draw it.
There will also be a small rounded crown on top; then, you can draw the pillow it is sitting on. Before the next step, you can use rounded shapes for the pieces next to the crown.
Step 3:
We will add more treasures to the picture in this step of our guide to drawing a treasure chest. In this step, we’ll show you some of the treasures we imagine in this chest, but feel free to add any other treasures you wish! We’ve added a few more circular shapes to show off more pieces inside the trunk.
Then we add many small circles connected to show pearl necklaces falling from the chest. These beads will also fill in the smaller gaps you left on the edge. Finally, we added some small triangular shapes for the diamonds that come out of the treasure.
Step 4:
In this fourth part of drawing your treasure chest, we will take the focus away from the treasure while focusing on some details of the chest itself. First, add another rectangular shape inside the lid perimeter outline for the inside of the lid. Then add an irregular curved line on the left side. Once these are drawn, you can add some straight lines for a wood effect.
Then draw square shapes inside the front and side perimeters of the trunk and add straight lines for more wood texture. You can also draw a round-shaped keyhole on the front of the chest. Then you’ll be ready for the final details and stuff in the next part!
Step 5:

Before we add some color in the last step of this guide on how to draw a treasure chest, we’ll first add a few final pieces of treasure to complete it. It is another step where you can get creative and add unique treasures to the picture.
As for what we add, we draw a few more pieces stacked on top of each other and more strings of beads, and a few small cups. We would add these coins to this treasure chest, but what else can you add?
Step 6:

Now it’s time to finish drawing your treasure chest by adding some fantastic colors to bring it to life! In our example image, we kept the treasure colors nice and bright by incorporating yellows, reds, and other bright colors. Next, for the chest, we used light browns and greys for the woody and metallic parts, respectively.
We have chosen these colors, but feel free to use any others you wish! You can also have fun choosing the art mediums to color this picture and which would work best for you.
